The seat in New York’s 27th Assembly District is vacant following the resignation of Democratic Rep. Daniel Rosenthal to take a position as the vice president for government relations for the United Jewish Appeal-Federation of New York. The 27th district is a heavily Jewish District in north central Queens. It has been a reliable Democratic seat, though, it has generally elected more conservative Democrats and was won by Lee Zeldin in the 2022 Gubernatorial election. Candidates for this race were selected by the local parties. Democrats selected Sam Berger, a recent law school graduate, and son of a local party leader. Running on the Republican and Conservative Party lines is David Hirsch, a rabbi in the district.
Polls close at 9 p.m. (EDT). We will have the election results below once they do.
