In November 2023 two Democratic members of the Michigan House of Representatives were elected mayor of their hometowns. With the vacancies that followed those results, the balance of power in the state house is even at 54 seats held by each party. Special elections in Districts 13 and 25 will determine which party is in control through the end of this year. Both seats are considered safe Democratic seats. District 13 covers part of Macomb County and stretches down into Detroit. District 25 lies completely within Wayne County in the suburbs west of Detroit. The winners of these primaries will face off in general elections on April 16. Polls close at 8 p.m. (EST). We will have the election results below once they do.
