Special Election Results for the Texas State House

September 28, 2021 by Max Gowins

It’s another special election Tuesday in Texas as voters in two districts head to the polls to choose a replacement Representative in the State House. First to the 118th District which covers much of southern Bexar County, including the southern tip of San Antonio, and wraps around out to the eastern point of the county. The seat is open after Leo Pacheco resigned to take a job teaching public administration at San Antonio College. There are 3 Democrats and 2 Republicans running to replace him on the special election ballot. Among them is Republican John Lujan who shocked the district, where Democrats generally have the edge, back in 2016 when he won the seat in a low turnout election that went to a runoff. He was defeated later that year in the general election and again when he ran in 2018, but remains a well-known name in the district. The other Republican running is Adam Salyer, who was the Republican nominee for the district in 2020. If no candidate reaches a 50%+1 majority, the top two vote-getters will move on to a runoff election. We will have election results here after polls close at 7 p.m. (CDT)

In the Texas State House District 10, there is a runoff for the special election that was held in late August. Former Republican 10th District Representative John Wray advanced to the runoff, along with former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Trump administration Brian Harrison. The seat opened up after Jake Ellzey was elected to Congress in the 6th Congressional District back in July. The 10th District covers all of Ellis County, as well as the northwest corner of Henderson County. We will have election results here after polls close at 7 p.m. (CDT)
