It’s Election Day in Pennsylvania as voters across the state head to the polls to vote in municipal primaries, and in some places, special elections for open seats in the General Assembly. We will have results from select contests for you here when polls close at 8 p.m. (EDT)
Philadelphia District Attorney
Incumbent DA Larry Krasner is facing a primary challenge from Carlos Vega. Krasner has the support of the progressive wing, while Vega is expected to mount a formidable challenge from a more moderate position. The winner of today’s race will face Republican Chuck Peruto, who was the only Republican that filed to run.
Special Elections in the General Assembly
There are four special elections for open seats in the General Assembly today. Two State Senate seats in Districts 22 and 48, and two seats in the House of Representatives in Districts 59 and 60. There were no primaries to select the candidates for these general elections, instead, party committees chose their candidates, including minor parties. The seats opened up after either the death or health complications of the seat’s incumbent. The winners of today’s races will finish out their terms.
Mayoral Primaries
We’re also following two Democratic mayoral primaries. The first is in Pittsburgh, where the incumbent mayor is facing three challengers, including a state rep. from the 24th district, The other in Harrisburg where the incumbent mayor is facing five challengers, including the city council president.
