The 2024 presidential election cycle continues with New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary. Last week in Iowa, former President Donald Trump won in a landslide, leading to all but one of his major challengers dropping out. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is the lone competitor left standing. She now gets the 1-on-1 matchup with the former president that she has wanted.
Unlike the Iowa caucuses, which were Republican-only, New Hampshire will hold Democratic and Republican primaries on the same day. On the Democratic side, however, the race is just for bragging rights as no delegates will be awarded based on the primary results. This is because the Democratic primary is being held in violation of the DNC rules which aimed to give different states first-in-the-nation status. Because of this, President Biden will not appear on the ballot. Still, some New Hampshire Democrats are organizing a write-in campaign for the president. Due to this unusual situation in the Democratic primary, you will at times see the write-in totals in our results decrease as they are processed and allocated to Joe Biden.
First votes will be reported at midnight (EST) as Dixville Notch will continue their tradition of casting their ballots in the opening minutes of Election Day. Polls in most of the state close at 7 p.m. (EST), though some cities will keep polls open until 8 p.m. (EST). DDHQ will not make any race projections until after all polls have closed.
