Virginia Primaries
Today Virginia Democrats headed to the polls to decide who their party’s nominees will be for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, as well as each House of Delegates district. Virginia Republicans opted to choose their statewide nominees via a party convention, but are still choosing their House of Delegates nominees in today’s primary. The Democratic primary for governor is open, as it always is since governors in Virginia are barred from serving consecutive terms. It does, however, feature former Governor Terry McAuliffe who is considered the heavy favorite. The race also includes former House of Delegates member Jennifer Carroll Foy, who resigned her seat in the 2nd district to run for governor; State Senator Jennifer McClellan; Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax; and Delegate Lee Carter, who is also running for re-election to his House of Delegates seat in the 50th district. You can find the election results to all of the races in Virginia on our results site when polls close at 7 p.m. (EDT)
New Jersey Primaries
In New Jersey, Republican voters are choosing who they want to put up against Governor Phil Murphy in November. There are four candidates running, including former state Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, who finished second in the 2017 Republican gubernatorial primary. Voters from both parties will also choose their one state Senate nominee and two General Assembly nominees in all 40 of New Jersey’s state legislative districts.
