Virginia 4th Congressional District Democratic Firehouse Primary
Democrats in Virginia’s 4th Congressional District are heading to the polls today to choose their nominee for the district’s vacant seat following the death of Congressman Donald McEachin. There are 8 polling locations open across the district that anyone who lives in the district can vote at. There are four candidates on the ballot today including State Senator Jennifer McClellan, who ran in the Democratic primary for governor in 2021, and State Senator Joe Morrissey, who has been a controversial figure within the party. Republicans in the 4th District have already nominated Leon Benjamin to run for the vacant seat in the February 21 special election. Congressman McEachin defeated Benjamin by nearly 30 points back on November 8. There will be no election results reported tonight for this race. Virginia Democrats will start counting the votes cast today at 10 am on Wednesday morning, so make sure you are checking in with us tomorrow to see the results.
Georiga State House District 129 Special Democratic Primary
The seat for Georgia’s 129th State House District is vacant following the death of Rep. Henry Howard. Since no Republican filed to run for the seat in the November 8 general election, only Democrats are eligible to run and vote for the vacant seat. There are four Democrats on the ballot today. If no candidate achieves a 50%+1 majority of the vote, the top two vote-getters will move on to a January 17 runoff election. We will have the election results below once polls close at 7 pm EST.
