There is just one race we’re tracking on this fourth Tuesday of the year. The seat in Tennessee’s 86th State House District is vacant after Rep. Barbara Cooper, who served 11 terms in the state house, passed away at the age of 93 just 14 days before the November 8th general election. She still won reelection, which triggered a special election. The 86th District runs along the entire western border of Shelby County from Memphis up to Millington. Since no Republicans filed to run for the vacancy, only a Democratic primary is being held today. There are 10 candidates in the Democratic primary, including two who have staged primary challenges to the late Rep. Cooper in past cycles. Candidates only need a plurality of votes to win the nomination. Polls close at 7 p.m. CST, we will have the election results below once they do.
