Virginia
The seat in Virginia’s 9th State Senate District is vacant after Democrat Jennifer McClellan was elected to Congress to represent Virginia’s 4th Congressional District. Today’s race is still being run under the old district lines drawn before the 2020 redistricting so the district remains in Richmond City, Charles City County, Hanover County, and Henrico County. Running to replace former Sen. McClellan are two candidates who were selected by the parties in firehouse primaries. Democrats selected Lamont Bagby who currently represents the 74th District in the House of Delegates. Republicans chose Steve Imholt who has previously run for the House of Delegates facing Jennifer McClellan as an independent in 2015. This is the first election Republicans have fielded a candidate in this district under its current lines. We will have the election results below once polls close at 7 p.m. (EDT)
New Hampshire
In New Hampshire, the seat in Hillsborough County’s 3rd State House District is vacant after Democrat Rep. Stacie-Marie Laughton resigned as she is facing a host of legal troubles stemming from multiple arrests. The district lies right in the center of Nashua. Marc Plamondon is the lone candidate in the Democratic primary. He will face the winner of the Republican primary between David Narkunas and Joost Baumeister in a May 16 special general election. Baumeister has run for a seat in this district multiple times before, most recently in 2022 where he came up just short of the three Democrats running for the district’s three seats.
