Voters across Oklahoma are heading to the polls today to vote on a ballot initiative that would legalize recreational marijuana. Question 820 is a voter-proposed initiative that reached the ballot after a petition of over 117,000 valid signatures were collected. Proponents of the initiative have vastly outraised and outspent the opponents of this initiative, however, the heavily Republican political establishment of the state has come out against it including both of Oklahoma’s U.S. Senators, Oklahoma City area Congresswoman Stephanie Bice, as well as the governor and attorney general. Back in 2018, medical marijuana was legalized in a statewide referendum by a margin of over 13%. Polls close at 7 p.m. (CST).
In Flordia, the seat in State House District 24 is vacant after Republican Joe Harding resigned after being indicted for defrauding the federal coronavirus small business loan program. District 24 covers much of southern Marion County. No Democrats filed to run for the vacancy so there is only a Republican primary. There are five candidates running in that primary. Polls close at 7 p.m. (EST).
