Voters in Durham are heading to the polls today to select who will be running in their November general election. Polls are open until 7:30 p.m. (EDT). We will have the election results below after polls close.
Mayor
The mayor’s office is open after incumbent mayor Elaine O’Neal opted not to run for a second term. Eight candidates are vying to replace her. Included in the field are city councilor DeDreana Freeman, city councilor Leonardo Williams, and state senator Mike Woodard. The top two finishers will move on to the November 7 general election.
City Council
All three at-large city council seats are up this year. Two of the at-large incumbents are running for reelection, while councilor Jillian Johnson decided against running for a third term. Twelve candidates are running to fill the three seats. The top six vote-getters will move on to the November 7 general election.
