We are tracking election results for one Saturday special election today in Delaware’s 4th State House District, which lies in northern New Castle County including parts of Wilmington. The seat for the 4th District is vacant after Democrat Gerald Brady resigned. In his resignation, former Rep. Brady cited a diagnosis for PTSD, however, he had recently been under fire for mistakenly sending an email using racist and sexist language in reference to Asian women. Candidates for today’s contest were selected by local party committees. Democrats chose former Wilmington City councilman Bud Freel, who served on the council for 24 years. Republicans selected Ted Kittila, a local attorney who ran for Delaware attorney general back in 2014. If the winner of this special election wants to remain in the Delaware House, they will need to run in a different district during the November election. This generally safe Democratic district has essentially been drawn out of existence in the latest redistricting. Polls close at 8 p.m. (EST). We will have election results for you below.
