She is one of seven candidates vying for one of the two spots on the November general election ballot today. Eight candidates are on the ballot and will be showing in the results, however, Jon Santiago dropped out of the race in mid-July. State House of Representatives Special Elections
We are also tracking the results in two State House special elections. First, in Iowa’s 37th District, which lies in Polk County just north of Des Moines, the seat is open after John Landon passed away back in late July. Vying for the seat are Democrat Andrea Phillips who twice challenged the late Rep. Landon in the past, and Republican Mike Bousselot who is the director of the Iowa Department of Management. We will have election results here after polls close at 7:00 p.m. (CDT)
Last is Tennessee’s 29th District, which covers part of the city of Chattanooga, and stretches into northern Hamilton County. The seat is open after Mike Carter passed away back in May. Republicans put forward Greg Vital, a former Collegedale city commissioner and previous candidate for state legislative office. Democrats have put forward DeAngelo Jelks, who resigned just this morning as Vice Chairman of the Hamilton County Democratic Party following allegations that he had sexually assaulted a campaign worker. That story broke just this morning is still developing. We will have results from this election here after polls close at 8:00 p.m. (EDT)
