The 2024 presidential race heads to the Great Lakes this week with contests in Michigan. First up, we have the state-run primaries on Tuesday.
On the Democratic side, President Biden is coming off a strong showing in Nevada at the beginning of the month and hopes to keep a winning margin at that level in Michigan. Joining him on the ballot are U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota and author Marianne Williamson who has suspended her campaign. The President’s main competition may be “Uncommitted” which is a ballot option in Michigan presidential primaries. There has been an organized effort from progressives encouraging Democrats to vote “Uncommitted” as a protest vote. All of Michigan’s 140 Democratic delegates will be awarded based on the outcome of this race.
On the Republican side, Tuesday’s primary only has 16 of the state’s 55 Republican delegates up for grabs. The rest will be allocated by the results of congressional district conventions being held across the state on Saturday. The primary on Tuesday will again feature former President Donald Trump and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. They will be joined by five other candidates on the ballot, most of whom have dropped out of the race. “Uncommitted” is also an option on the Republican ballot.

First polls close at 8 p.m. (EST) with some counties on the western edge of the Upper Peninsula closing an hour later. We will have the election results below shortly after the first polls close.
