The seat in New York’s 3rd Congressional District is vacant after Republican Rep. George Santos became the sixth representative ever to be expelled from the chamber. His removal triggered a special election and an opportunity for Democrats to take back the seat in a district President Biden won back in 2020. The 3rd District covers northern Nassau County and reaches just into Queens. The local parties selected the candidates for today’s contest. Democrats chose the district’s former three-term Representative, Tom Suozzi, who ran for Governor instead of reelection in 2022. Republicans put forward Nassau County legislator Mazi Pilip. Polls close at 9 p.m. (EST). We will have the election results for NY-03 and the special election taking place in State Assembly District 77 below once they do.
