The seat in South Carolina’s 19th State Senate District is vacant following the death of longtime legislator John Scott. The 19th District lies just north of the city of Columbia, covering much of northern Richland County. Four Democrats filed to run for the vacant seat including former Columbia City Councilor Tameika Devine and state Rep. Kambrell Garvin. If no candidate achieves a 50%+1 majority of the vote, the top two vote-getters will advance to a November 7th primary runoff. Only one Republican filed in this heavily Democratic district, so there is no Republican primary today. The general election will take place on January 2, 2024. Polls close at 7 p.m. (EDT). We will have the election results below once they do.
