One of Oregon’s longest-serving state legislators has been pulled into a recall election by the state’s largest private-sector union. Democrat Paul Holvey, who represents Oregon’s 8th State House District, is facing a recall effort brought by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. They are seeking to remove him after he as chair of the House Committee on Business and Labor tabled a bill that would have allowed cannabis workers to unionize. The 8th District lies in central Lane County and includes part of Eugene. It is a heavily Democratic district that Rep. Holvey won with nearly 85% of the vote last November. Oregon is an all-mail voting state. All ballots must be postmarked by October 3, and must arrive at the elections office by October 10. Lane County has said to expect the first election results to be reported no later than 8 p.m. (PDT). We will have those election results below once they are available.
