Virginia
It’s primary election day in the Old Dominion, as voters across Virginia are heading to the polls to choose their party’s nominees for the General Assembly. Democrats currently control the State Senate, while Republicans control the House of Delegates, both by narrow margins. Virginia has open primary elections which means voters do not have to be registered with a party in advance to vote in a specific party’s primary. Even though Virginia held state legislative elections in 2021, this is the first cycle that the new state legislative district maps have been used following the 2020 census. Polls close at 7 p.m. EDT, we will have the election results below shortly after.
Kansas City
In Kansas City, Mayor Quinton Lucas is running for a second term. He and his opponent today, Clay Chastain, were the only two candidates to appear on the primary ballot back in April. They advanced to today’s general election after besting a duo of write-in candidates. Mayor Lucas received just over 80% of the vote in that April primary. Though the Kansas City Mayor is a nonpartisan position, the party affiliation of both candidates is known. Mayor Lucas is affiliated with the Democratic Party, while Clay Chastain is affiliated with the Republican Party. Polls close at 8 p.m. CDT, we will have the election results below shortly after.
