Today, we’re tracking election results for a Saturday race. Louisiana’s 101st State House District is vacant after Edward James was appointed regional administrator for the US Small Business Administration’s south-central region by President Biden. The 101st District lies in central East Baton Rouge Parish and includes parts of Baton Rouge, Merrydale, and all of Monticello. Louisiana uses a majority-voting system, known colloquially as “jungle primaries”. This means every candidate from every party will be on one ballot. If no candidate wins a 50%+1 majority of the vote, the top two candidates move onto an April 30th general election. Running in today’s contest are two Democrats and an independent candidate. We will have election results for you once the polls close at 8 p.m. (CDT)
