Election Results: Atlanta Mayoral Runoff and a Massachusetts State House Special

November 30, 2021 by Max Gowins

As we enter the holiday season, the 2021 election schedule is still in full swing. Today we have election results from two contests, the Atlanta mayoral runoff and a special general election for the vacant seat for Essex’s 4th District of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives.

Atlanta

Today’s runoff comes after no candidate was able to achieve a 50%+1 majority of the vote in the November 2nd general election. The mayor’s office is open this year after incumbent mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms made the surprising announcement that she would not seek re-election. Advancing from the general election were City Council President Felicia Moore who came in first, and fellow City Councilman from an at-large seat Andre Dickens who finished in second. While the race is technically non-partisan, both candidates are Democrats. Both incumbent mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and general election fourth-place finisher and top fundraiser Sharon Gray have endorsed Dickens. You can read more about the surprises of the Atlanta mayoral general election in our recap from Nick Field here. We will have election results below after polls close at 8 p.m. (EST)

Massachusetts

Up in Massachusetts, the State House seat in Essex’s 4th District is vacant after Republican Brad Hill was appointed to the State Gaming Board by Governor Charlie Baker, Attorney General Maura Healey, and state Treasurer Deborah Goldberg. Essex’s 4th District in the Massachusetts State House covers the entirety of six towns in Essex County: Hamilton, Ipswich, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Rowley, Topsfield, and Wenham. Running to replace Hill are Democrat Jamie Belsito and Republican Robert Snow. Both had to run in and emerged from primary contests on November 2nd. Snow is currently a Selectman from Rowley, while Belsito, who is from Hamilton, unsuccessfully primaried Seth Moulton for the 6th Congressional District in 2020. We will have election results below after polls close at 8 p.m. (EST)
