We have election results for just one race on this Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The seat in the Mississippi State Senate’s 32nd District is vacant after Democrat Sampson Jackson retired following nearly 30 years as the district’s senator. District 32 covers northwestern Winston County, southern Noxubee County, all of Kemper County, and cuts diagonally across Lauderdale County into the city of Meridian. Nine candidates ran to fill the vacancy back on November 2nd, but none reached the 50%+1 majority threshold. The top two candidates who moved on to today’s runoff are Noxubee County Justice Court prosecutor Rod Hickman, and Minh Duong, an optometrist from Meridian. While special elections in Mississippi are non-partisan races, the state Democratic Party has endorsed Hickman, while some Republicans have been lining up behind Duong. Polls close at 7 p.m. (CST). We will have the election results for you below.
