All the seats in both houses of the Virginia General Assembly were up last week and Democrats flipped control of both bodies. As part of our election coverage tonight, we looked at 11 crucial contests in the Virginia state legislature in depth- but we also put together precinct maps for both the Virginia House of Delegates and Virginia State Senate.
Below are complete precinct maps for both chambers. Hovering over specific precincts will show information about those results. The precincts are labeled by specific race, so the map will cover all of the districts within.
Many of these precincts illustrate the sharp shift in Virginia politics over the past two decades, especially in the Northern Virginia area. Once a swing state, Democrats now control the Governor’s mansion, General Assembly, and both U.S. Senate seats. Republicans haven’t won a statewide race since 2009- one full decade.
You can also see the returns in key races that helped Democrats flip each house here.
